Vintage 1970s UK size 6-8 very rare natural cream cotton embroidered Mexican maxi dress.
Brand - Girasol/Gonzalo Bauer
Condition - In good vintage condition. There is a small pink mark and some light marks on the hemline at the back of the dress. There are also lots of little black dots in the cotton. This is normal for unbleached fabric and are cotton seeds. The cotton is 100% natural. I have taken the little issues into account and have priced accordingly. This should be over £250.
This is a very rare piece, there aren't many of these maxi dresses about now.
Girasol was the fashion house of Mexican designer Gonzalo Bauer, who ran the business along with his spouse, Yoja. He was one of only several well-known Mexican designers of the 1970s. Bauer’s designs often featured traditional Mexican craft. He used fabrics that were handwoven in Mexico along with embroidered embellishments. This is an example of this with the traditional Mexican embroidery.
The dress is made from 100% natural cotton. So, untreated and unbleached, and therefore does contain little black cotton seeds within the fabric.
It has a high round neckline with very subtle lace trim edging.
It fastens all the way through the front of the dress with press studs.
With beautiful floral embroidered panel to the front of the bodice.
It has long sleeves with tight cuffs that also embroidered and fasten with press studs.
With concealed side pockets.
It is maxi in length and unlined.
A really beautiful dress.
