It is a securely fastening bag unless you unscrew the flower to the front. Seems like an inconvenience but they were used for a few reasons:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e1) Security - The contents couldn't spill out if the bag tipped over and no-one could easily access the bag if they wished to try and steal from you!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2_Cleaner design - Designers could avoid visible catches, snaps or frames. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3) Many handbags were designed almost like jewellery accessories. So an ornate screw fitting felt luxurious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e4) These types of cocktail bags weren't intended for everyday use. So they didn't need to be accessed all the times and people weren't constantly reaching for a phone! Women typically only carried a compact, lipstick, a hanky and some cash. Some the bag wasn't opened more than several ties a night.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt feel like it might have been a more high end bag this one. Made from patent leather with a suede type lining. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt has a gold tone multistrand handle. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs mentioned it opens by unscrewing the fold tone stone set flower to the front - a few of the petals are a little bent but these could be pushed back in to place.
