Vintage Original 1930s Size 8-10 Iridescent Plum Purple Satin Shirred Ruffle Detail Evening Dress

Condition - Good vintage condition for its age. 

This beautiful vintage occasion dress is homemade from an iridescent plum purple acetate rayon fabric. Also known as cold rayon.

Acetate rayon was very popular in the 1930s. It was a revolutionary fabric because it offered a lustrous silk like fabric at a much lower cost. It brought luxury to the masses and  was used in linings, lingerie and dresses. 

This dress is made from a plum purple iridescent rayon acetate and has a lovely shine to it giving a slightly blue hue to it in certain lights. 

The dress slips on over the head and has no fastenings at all. Dresses constructed like this were popular in the early to mid 30's as zips had not started to become popular yet. Buttons and press studs were popular but evening dresses were often constructed to slips on over the head to give a fluid look.

 The dress has a scooped neckline and slips on over the head. So although it measures to a size 10 it doesn't have any stretch. So I am estimating more like a size 8-10.

It has shirred panels to both sides of the neck with ruffle trim detailing. 

With short sleeves that have shirred shoulder pad. 

With a shirred ruffle trim to the back of the waist. 

The way is constructed with the low cut panels is typical of the period. 

Maxi in length and unlined.
