Vintage Late 1960s Very Rare CROWTHERS Approx UK Size 8 INCREDIBLE Black & Dark Pink Whimsical Tree Print Wide Sleeve Kaftan Style Boho Maxi Dress

Brand - Crowthers Of Manchester, England. 

Condition  Very good vintage condition.

Has been freshly laundered so is ready to wear. 

This is a very rare label and sought after by collectors in the know. Crowthers was a boutique label owned by John Crowther. An astute business man who went on to own boutiques in Chester Birmingham and London. In London he had a prominent position on Kensington high street and was supplying his dresses to the likes of Miss Selfridge & Bus Stop. He had his own inhouse designer and a small team making the garments from his premesis in Manchester.  They were well known for their whimsical patterns and prints involving fairies known as "Sunny Manchester"

He also managed up and coming bands as well as running his fashion empire! Sadly John Crowther died just as his businesses were starting to really take off. He died in the dentist's chair at the age of 26. It is thought he had an allergic reaction to the anesthetic. What a really sad story!

This is one of his dresses dating to about 1969. 

It is a black & dark pink (almost purple) whimsical tree print - so beautiful. 

Made from what feels like a cotton or cotton mix fabric. 

It has a square neckline to the front of the dress and fastens to the back with a zip. 

With the widest long sleeves you have ever seen, with ruffle trim edging. The sleeves of dreams!!!

It is maxi in length, kaftan in style with a flared empire line in shape.

Lined from under the bust to hem. 

With a deep tiered hemline. 

An absolutely incredible dress and of my most favourite finds to date.
